I always have my Dohm set to 5, but many times when I turn it on, it automatically sets itself to 8-9 and comes on roaring. The app is functional but as others have said there is a lot of room for improvement. One very basic thing is that if you get curious and tap the + button (which is for adding another device) there is no way to cancel out of that menu without just force quitting the app. I would really love to see Marpac add integration with Siri/Homekit so that I could control my Dohm through voice commands and Shortcuts. This would be a huge value add for my use cases, and given how many other companies have managed to figure out how to do this, it seems like the next logical feature for Marpac. It could be built into the app, so that folks don’t need to go out and buy a new device for this feature, but would mean the device appeals to more people and the R&D would be worth it for the increased sales. Just a thought/wish.
While I do appreciate the convenience that is offered through having a schedule that automatically turns the sound machine on and off, I have run into a problem with the limitations presented within this app. I need to have more than one schedule, as my sleep hours differ a little on the weekend, and the app does not currently offer the ability to run two different schedules simultaneously. When I create a schedule for Monday thru Friday, then attempt to create a separate schedule for the weekend, the first schedule is deleted and replaced. Secondly, when you accidentally click the option to add a second Marpac device, there is no way to back out of that set-up other than to completely close the app and reopen it. This is poor design and I expected better from this company. Please improve the UX Design of this app and it’s functionality.
The App works fine. It functions just like a remote and can turn the unit on and off as well as adjust the volume. However, I’m frustrated that there is no Alexa compatibility in the app. There is an Alexa skill and it’s marketed as Alexa enabled, but there is no way to enable the skill in the app, as Alexa instructs you to do. Why take the time to build an Alexa skill if you can’t enable it for use?
The app functions mostly as expected, except it still needs some polish. For instance, if you go into the add a device dialogue, there is no way to back out without restarting the app. Also, when using the Alexa skill, Alexa tells you to go into the app settings and enable Alexa support, but there is no such setting! Lastly, the little details need some work, e.g. some text is off center, etc. in the end it does what you need it to, which is nice as the paired vdevice is great, but it needs a few bugs fixed and a little more effort put in.
1. Download the app. 2. Go to the trouble of setting up a super cool. on/off schedule for your white noise maker, complete with volume levels! 3. Wait for it to work and when it doesn’t, go check the app. 4. Every single time, EVERY TIME the app has disconnected from your little machine, and has to be terminated and restarted. 5. Repeat this every day until you’re sorry you paid good money for this thing. Update: A few things to note here. The support team is VERY responsive and will work with you through issues. Second, I found a workaround for my issue noted above (don’t create overlapping schedule instructions, eve if one ends at 7am and the other starts at the same time). Progress is being made. Just consider yourself a beta tester.
Does not connect about seventy five percent of the time. So it's effectively useless. Just buy a non smart sound machine and avoid the extra $$ spent on this one. Sad to see that they've essentially decommissioned this app. I bought the sound machine less than a year ago and I think it's crummy that they still sell it while not supporting functionality with the app.
I have not tried to use this with Alexa, however it works great just using the app from my phone. Very convenient to not have to get out of bed to turn it on and off.
Constantly stays connected with the noise machines even while not using the app, drains phone battery very quickly if Bluetooth is not disabled. Would appreciate an option to only connect while app is open.
App doesn’t work, will pair but then won’t complete the setup, no connectivity after that. Tried removing and then added again 3 different times with same results. One of the three times it seemed to complete but then half The fields were not accepting changes from default settings. FRUSTRATING! returning the machine because the experience is so very poor and there is absolutely NO support
The app last update was 4yrs ago!! It has bugs! When I open the app it does not show anything. I need to close and reopen. That happens all the time. The schedule sometimes does not work either. It needs an update ASAP! Why do you guys still sell the device that uses this app if it doesn’t have any maintenance?!
I wanted a new classically designed noise machine and thought this would be a good option. It’s sound and functionally are fine. My only issue with this support app. The main purpose was to be able to Connect multiple devices to the machine so we could control it remote. However with app / device only supports pairing for one device.
It’s nice to be able to turn on noise machine from phone, but the schedule never works properly. Turns on when it’s supposed to turn off. Doesn’t turn on when it’s scheduled to. Just awful. Hopefully they’ll fix it one day
The app keeps disconnecting itself and every time I try to log in to save my settings, it’s kicks me out and does not save. What is the point of the app if I have to manually turn it on and off and set the volume by getting up.
Garbage. The sleep schedule randomly changes every day and wakes me up in the middle of the night. Can’t edit the sleep schedule, can’t add new rules, and can’t delete old ones. Had to uninstall. Wish I could give this 0 stars.
The Sleep schedule function, which i feel is the most important function, does not work well enough. There aren’t any instructions or troubleshooting guide anywhere either.
One issue I have found with what I think is specific to the app and not the unit itself, is that the default volume does not persist for the duration of a schedule. For example, if I increase the default volume to 8 and save it in the settings, the unit will turn on (at a selected time) at volume 8. But later during the schedule, the volume automatically decreases back to the default setting of 6. I’ve tried setting/saving the default volume even higher, but it always goes back down to 6 in the middle of the night. It’s annoying because I will eventually wake up and have to increase the volume again to go back to sleep.
The way the app works is that you slide your finger on the screen to change the speed. Whenever I try to change the speed the haptic on my phone glitches out and it goes bad to the speed it was at before.
The main reason I purchased this new unit is so I could automatically set it to turn off at a certain time. Unfortunately, this feature does not work most of the time. I’ve done some testing and still can’t figure out why it works sometimes and not others. Also, you have to set a time for it to turn on when you set the turn off time which makes no sense seeing how most people don’t go to bed the same time every night.
Don’t waste your money on the app compatible version, the app almost never pairs with the machine and when it does it never works. I’ve had the machine two months now and I’ve only been able to use the app once.
Give sleep a chance! Marpac's famous noise-reducing, sleep-inducing natural white noise can now be controlled through your iOS device. The Marpac Connect app lets you control your BLE-enabled Dohm Connect sound machine with a few simple commands, all in sleep-friendly "night view." To get started, click the Enable button above. Once installed, the Marpac Connect app lets you turn your sound machine on/off, adjust the volume, and set multiple sleep schedules. (On/off and volume can also be controlled manually on the machine itself.) The Marpac Connect app is able to control multiple units. To do this, you will need to name each Marpac device. These names can be specified in the User Setup and Settings screens.
