I don't know how they do it, exactly, but it works! This is the only weather app I check in the Bay Area. Every other app seems to use data from SFO which can be more than 10*F warmer than other parts of the city on certain days. Whenever I have BBQs, I always get asked, "what's the weather like in your neighborhood?!" This helps. My primary suggestion would be to extend the regional map northward, or perhaps to split the regional map into "North Bay" and "South Bay" to include coastal Marin, inland Marin, Petaluma, and Napa. Giving just one temperature for Marin is analogous to why this app was created in the first place for SF. I also wish the forecast would extend beyond 24 hours but I recognize that may be too difficult to accurately predict.
Seriously one of the best apps ever!!! I don’t know how they do it but it’s super accurate and really helps plan for the day. You can pick your parks, picnics, hikes or beaches based on what temperatures you are in the mood for. Also the additional extended Bay Area map allows me to plan more appropriately for the days I cross the bay. Whether I’m going to an A’s game or a Berkeley event, I actually have SOME idea of what to expect for the weather. It’s so clutch! I recently left the Bay Area and miss this app soooo much. Any recommendations on how to get something similar in my new area of ever-changing microclimates?!?
Thank you for not using geo location map data. The other two apps in the App Store Story do this and for those of us who don’t live in the locales these apps are featured for it shows local weather instead, without the benefit of the cool graphics. Love the cute animated whale and boats. Will Karl be a future additional layer? Maybe some interesting landmarks or geo features to denote elevation? Lastly, in the settings section, it would be great to have a few other to give feedback via Twitter or email items like those listed in apps like Transit or the like.
I love using this app! It is both easy to use and easy on the eyes, such that it’s always a joy to open it up. Sometimes I open the app just to look at it, even if I don’t need microclimate data. But of course, when I do need to know, I can always count on Mr Chilly for reliable predictions. I would give this app 6 stars if I could.
I love the concept. Beautiful color coded maps of temperatures. The data seems to be based on forecasts, not live info. I use it every day because it’s very helpful and I can quickly understand temps in a glance. Living in the East Bay, working in SF where temps can vary by 5-10°, this is great!! Of course there is still room to improve. For example, I wish we could have a view for Marin/Sonoma/Napa so I can plan my weekend coastal hikes and trips to wine county. I also wish the app could do more with live data easily available, but also keeping things as simple and clear as they are right now. ☺️
It’s one of those hyper-local apps that you just need. It replaced another app that gave simple, real-time, weather data that was left to rot. Thanks to a hackathon this cute app emerged. I pay for it because it’s useful and useful apps deserve financial support, especially given how trivial the amount is. If you live in SF you need this period, but it supports the greater Bay Area so everyone around here should have it.
Opened it for the first time in a long while. After some number of seconds, it crashed. I mean, it could be described as a spontaneous exit, because I already saw what I was coming to see... But it wasn't an exit I asked for. So, crash. Considering how long it's been since it was updated, this is... Unsurprising.
I literally tell everyone about Mr Chilly and it’s been my go to app since I moved to the city 4 years ago! It’s so accurate and the biggest life saver when it comes to getting dressed each day. Thank you to the people that created it, you’ve saved me from being too cold or too hot countless times.
I thought this was a great app so I paid to support it. But now that we are in a heat wave and I’ve been paying closer attention to the temps, I’m realizing it’s not even close to accurate! It says it uses weather underground as a source, but the temps in weather underground are higher than what is showing in Mr. Chilly. Plus you can tell just from literally walking outside that the temp showing in Mr. Chilly is nowhere near accurate. Two stars because the UI is great but if it’s not accurate what is the point? I wish I could get my $2 back.
Can’t get through a day without this handy app. Bay Area weather is so unpredictable but Mr. Chilly is always spot-on with the microclimates! The last year this app was crashing when I flip from SF to the larger surrounding areas, but I think it was recently updated (thank you) because it’s stable now.
Love this app. Even though it will shut down immediately after I pop it open. I still love it when it works. I can plan my clothing for the day when I’m SF or if I’m going around the Bay Area. I’ve recommended to friends who also enjoy it. Love the sliding display by the hour and color map effects. Keep it going!!
All apps should be this straightforward, simple, and informative. Not trying to do anything else but give you the weather. No point system, no checking in crap, no adds, no complication. It’s a weather app that just gives you the weather. What a concept.
Mr. Chilly is most excellent! It’s necessary in San Francisco to know what the weather is a 10 minute walk away, because that’s just how it is here. Mr. Chilly delivers! It’ll tell you where the fog line is, the difference between Sunny and “Where the frick is my windbreaker?”, and just slide your finger for the predicted temp at 9pm. Mr. Chilly rocks! -Carl
This app is a great idea, but the forecasts are always a bit off from more established sources, like the weather channel. Today at 3 pm for example, it’s off by 4° in my part of the city. Not a huge deal. But I’m heading to Walnut Creek this afternoon and it’s forecasting 12° cooler than weather channel. 12° can make a big difference in what I’m planning to wear. Think I’ll stick with the weather channel app.
This a nice and cute app that shows a color gradient based on the temperatures in the different neighborhoods in SF and greater Bay Area. However, it doesn’t tell you anything else about the weather/microclimates in the neighborhoods. For example, it would be nice if it could also show the cloud cover in the neighborhoods in addition to the temperatures (eg is it sunny in Mission Dolores? Is it worthwhile to go to Ocean Beach?).
I only wish it indicated the weather as well as the temperatures. I’m a native San Franciscan and I live in the mission but work in the outer Richmond and while it may be a beautiful, sunny day when I leave home, out by the beach could have low dense wet fog. Would just be nice to be able to know a little more info on those locations, i.e. if an umbrella is necessary or if there are high winds, etc
looks beautiful, with nice interactions. my one suggestion would be the ability to zoom in to different parts of the bay area, so you can focus on Oakland or Berkeley or elsewhere, in addition to SF.
I started writing a review and the decided not to but it wouldn’t let me hit send. Also for some reason the font is white on a white background so I can’t see what I’m typing.
This app is good because San Francisco has different micro claims. So it is great to know what parts of the city are with temperatures. What could make this app better is have more San Francisco neighborhoods listed and have the app be updated more often so that the app can still work with the latest version of IOS and iPhones.
I love this app so much. Most accurate weather app for SF hands down. Now that IOS 16 is out can you add a widget for the Lock Screen so you don’t have to always open the app?
Been using this for as long as I can remember and it’s never let me down. Soooo accurate and helpful. This app lives on my first page and I use it daily. 10/10 stars
Lived in SF for the past 6 years and was excited to find this app. Unfortunately, it has VERY limited function and only gives you temperature which doesn’t help! I want to know if it’s cloudy or sunny or foggy, temperature alone tells me nothing considering that doesn’t change dramatically across the city. How this app is still a thing is beyond me. Rubbish and do not recommend wasting your download bandwidth.
This app is so helpful if you’re going to multiple neighborhoods. The UI is so gorgeous and easy to use. I do wish it showed precipitation and wind. I’d even pay for that version.
We all know that there are different temperatures around town. Mr Chilly makes it easy to get a grip on how many layers one needs to do stuff on any given day. It’s amazing and one of my favorite apps.
I used to use this app every day because it gives accurate temperature predictions for each SF district. However, whenever I try to scroll through the hours, the app immediately closes. As a result, I don’t really use the app anymore. Hopefully this gets fixed because I miss using this beautiful app 😭
I use this app a lot when planning my outfits for the ever-changing Bay Area weather. Occasionally, scrolling through time too quickly seems to be too much for the app, making it crash.
It was a brisk day. No sign of trouble. Then all the suddenly son, MATEO, nearly shook to death from a untimely gust of san Franciscan wind. If not for Mr. Chilly, I would have never known that we were minutes away from the , ,
I love the idea of this app but unless I'm missing something, there is no legend that explains the map colors, and only base temp. Blue is rain...maybe? Anyway, I guess MC is helpful if you want to know an appx. temp by general SF locations, but to be really useful in SF, fog, rain, and wind forecasts are equally important - esp. since they can affect the temp significantly.
This app is a life saver for living in one micro climate but working in another Also, it’s beautiful and calming to look at. I recommend it to everyone I know!
Coastal weather can change in a minute. True San Franciscans never leave home without a sweater. This app lets you preview anticipated temperatures for the next 24 hours in neighborhoods from Marin to San Jose
This app accesses your clipboard without consent when you open it. With iOS 14 they added notifications when apps use the paste feature from clipboard — it appears when you open this app, meaning it swipes information you have copied to your clipboard upon opening the it. Really deceiving... wonder what else they’re collecting and doing with this information
This is the best SF weather app and the only one that helps you predict where the fog is and where the sun is shining at any given hour of the day! Thank you for making this app!!!
Long time user of Mr. Chilly and I love it on iPhone. However now with iPad, most times we have to see it sideways. Would love to see an update to support iPadOS.
Honestly the app is great. Been using it for years. But just noticed that it grabs the contents of your clipboard every time the app is opened, even in the paid version. Maybe if you stop doing that I’ll install the app again. Until then I’m happy being off by a couple of degrees.
Love the app and it’s design, minus all the crashes
It’s seriously the mort beautiful and useful of the sf microclimate apps. Not too much or too little info But.... recently it keeps crashing and more frequently. Now, I can’t even start it as it crashes right on loading. It’d be 5 stars without the crashes.
With the new IOS update we can now see when an app automatically takes the information in our clipboard. Why is mr chilly doing this? I’ve used this app for a long time but it’s very concerning that you are ultimately stealing people’s clipboards on launch of the app. Everyone - you can see this when u open the app. Be careful!
It’s so nice to have this app! But would be awesome is knowing the wind speed or wind chill in these areas as well as track where the fog is for visibility 😁
This concept is great! The thing is we need more than just the temperatures. It’s crucial to know the fog situation. That affects everything. So you need to somehow include fog conditions as they change throughout the day. San Francisco weather is all about the fog. So more info please. Then it would be an app worth paying for. Trust me.
I love mr. chilly it helps me so welll to find the wether at different times! The first time I got this app I thought it was amazing! I think every body should youse Mr. chilly to help them find the wether
