The idea of this app is phenomenal. The app itself offers a subpar experience. Why do I still need internet to access offline videos? Why does the sound stop randomly, only to restart the video audio from the beginning even though the video stays at more than half done? Why do the speed controls not work for videos 1/2 the time? So many bugs and errors, I wish my school would switch to something else.
Haven’t even used the app because it won’t let me use my school account on the app, when I try to sign in it will automatically takes me to the website. This would be fine if Panopto had IOS support but it literally just doesn't so why even take there. It’s just wasted my time by me trying to figure out how to use it, just for me to figure out I can’t. This app shouldn’t advertise or partner with schools because the app is not properly built, and isn’t straight forward or easy to use it’s a hindrance on students. It’s annoying that this app even is used in professional settings because the app is far from it. Also (on computer) why make make it seem like recording in your browser is a alternative when it doesn’t even record your screen, it just works as a really bad webcam in the browser. You need to actually install the software on a computer to use the screen recorder. F this software, student around the world despise you because of the negligence your company has about the capabilities of your software.
There is a huge problem that no one seems to do anything about let alone being aware. I am a med student and heavily depend on watching lectures over and over again. And after watching one time with no problem, you cannot continue watching a video from wherever you want once the video falls under the ‘continue watching’ category. System forces you to start over from the beginning sound wise. If you continue you will hear the start of the video even though visually it’s continuing from the last slide. If you fast forward or back to a part where you want to listen then either the sound or the visuals do not match. So overall there is no way around watching a video second time in the mobile app. Please solve this issue. We are planning on petitioning to the Deans office to let panopto go from our lectures.
Slide and recording does not go together, and once you fast forward it, there's no going back and the whole lecture basically become a waste You guys need to fix it. The recorded lecture have lecture and ppt separated timelines. When I fast forward it's rather only the lecture move to the time I want to while the ppt remains on it's original time line or vice versa. And once you adjust it, the video and the ppt will never ever aligned again. I need to fast forward for some lectures, and it has to be a usable feature for recorded lectures. The other things are bearable, but this fault in the system is affecting my studying.
This is hands down worst app I have had the displeasure to interact with for educational purposes. I hope that schools see these reviews and drop these no-good developers and bring somebody who knows how to build an app. I’ve had so many issues and frustrations with this while viewing my online classes: 1. At random times, one of the videos stops showing (most of the time it’s the screen sharing… arguably the important piece) 2. If you stop a video in the middle, when you come back to it, one of two things will happen to you: - you won’t be able to see one of the screens (most likely the important one) - the tracking progress bar on the video thinks it’s picked up where you left off, but the video actually started from the beginning. In which case you cannot navigate through it, because it’s all out of whack. 3. Sometimes audio just stops working and you need to restart the app.
My professor turns on live transcript because some students ask for it (I think it’s what it’s called) and it gets in the way of the video. My professor uses a blackboard so this is a huge deal for me. There needs to be a way of turning it off. The CC feature simply adds subtitles to the screen making it worse. The video platform also isn’t the best. Please fix it 😭
This app hardly ever works for users (everyone at my org is issued an iPad). The bugs seem to be unpredictable and plentiful. Endless playback issues, video/audio desynchronization. Blank video, working audio one day. No audio, working screen, no video the next. Headache for our own tech services. Panopto tech services are responsive, but tickets don’t lead to resolutions. The web interface for users is better, but still buggy. Seriously consider alternative services if you are an iPad/iPhone heavy org.
I’m sure there are many college students out there like myself using Panopto for online classes right now. One thing I would really like to see in this app is the ability to airplay content that you’re viewing to your TV. It’d make it a lot easier to follow along with lectures while taking notes at the same time. Especially for students who don’t have more than one device or screen.
There’s a lag between the sound and video when pausing and resuming a video. You can’t resume where you left off. I don’t understand the point of having a download option because I’m still unable to watch these “offline videos” when I’m not connected to internet. Even with the internet, the videos take forever to load and if you use any of the functionalities one too many times, the video starts to glitch. Just a waste…
The reason I gave 2 stars is only to acknowledge its existence as an app I need and can technically use. But I can’t pause without the rest of the video lagging. If I rewind the video does not rewind, just the audio. If I fast forward the video is just black with audio. Watching lectures from my phone is a luxury, I am aware. But it’s very hard to learn data modeling if I can’t see the video.
So many issues that renders this app completely unusable on iPhone. No matter where in the video I am, if I’m continuing where I left off, the audio starts and resumes from the very beginning, completely unsynced from the video. Sometimes screen is just completely black with audio. Others it doesn’t let me fast forward or rewind. Not once have I been able to view a single video properly. :(
Hi, I am a student who heavily relies on viewing the scrollable transcript (captions) for my several 80+ minute lectures per week when using the desktop version. This version of the app has not demonstrated this capability on any of the videos I’ve checked. This is a must-have accessibility feature, and my operation of this app will be at a serious detriment until this simple feature is implemented.
Something that’s strange with this app that I’ve not seen anywhere is when you try to fast forward or rewind a video. The audio doesn’t match the video at the new start point, it just keeps going.
Not bad, but not great. Some of the controls are very clunky, the video player itself is kinda bad and could definitely use tweaks. Most importantly this app can definitely use airplay, I would even say this app needs it. Especially because of what this app is designed to do, airplay support should’ve been thought of a long time ago.
The app is usable, not the nicest or most intuitive one. I wish it would let me cast the video onto my TV so I can use my iPad to take notes, too. Their website should also have that feature. I think another review already said something like that.
Love the fact that Panopto has an app, but why in the world (in the year 2021) can we not cast the video? Nearly every other platform has the capability, but not Panopto - not via computer or phone. Our college uses this program to record lectures. It would be amazing to cast these to the television and take notes while watching. Also can’t watch the web version from my phone, because of the cookies requirement.
This app is terrible, there no way to organize videos so unless you’re coming straight from the professors link you’re completely lost. The slides it shows hardly ever actually matches up with what the teacher is talking about and if you try to start a video from where you left off the audio still starts at the beginning.
My stuff is hard to use and, for the most part, useless because it only shows recently watched and bookmarked videos. The most frustrating part is the search result; it shows every video that contains the word in the search. It is just impossible for mobile use.
I have a nasty cold but Having to using this app feels worse.
This is the worst experience I have ever had with any application on any platform in my life. It constantly crashes or freezes. It is super frustrating when I’m trying to pay attention to the course material. I absolutely dread every time I have to use this app.
Like other reviews, this is a great concept. But I consistently run into technology errors. Videos that I record will fail to upload or will get lost in the “cloud” in other users folders. Really wish this worked better.
As other users have mentioned, you can no longer fast forward if you suspend the app. If your phone screen turns off while you have the video up, you won’t be able to resume at that point. Huge bug that is ruining the app.
This app used to do the job, but not it’s full of glitches that make replaying videos impossible. Audio and video don’t sync! Can’t scrub forward to correct time point as it “rubber bands” back to beginning. Fix this app please!
I always watch the videos at 2x speed. The pitch stays normal when the app is in the foreground, but it makes the speaker extremely squeaky and high pitched when I switch to background audio. Please fix! Thanks!
There are so many glitches in this app, it’s unusable. Every time I fast forward a video the entire app stops working and I have to close the whole thing. It just randomly stops in the middle of videos, and I can’t move the recorded video, so it’s always blocking the slide. Please consider fixing
Every single time the screen eventually turns black and won’t show. Video also won’t fast forward when you skip forward. The audio goes but the video doesn’t match.
Need to submit a school presentation through this and it won’t record. Downloaded this app just to leave 1 star wish I could go lower and let you guys know when you need this the most it won’t be there
This app is not very intuitive and is not easy to use. The app still needs a lot of polish to be something really worth using, online is still significantly better.
not sure why but the app no longer lets me zoom in on videos which was a helpful feature for lecture recordings. also, the app now pauses when you click anywhere on the screen instead of when you click on the pause button, which is quite annoying.
Like others have said you get speed controls, but the video doesn’t change. So you are clicking and hoping you see what you need to see. Glad my school pays money for this junk project.
App starts the audio and video whenever it feels like it. You could spend all day trying to sync them together just to pause it and have the audio start from the beginning
Courses available on the panopto desktop client aren’t visible or searchable on the app until about a day later. On top of the other issues other reviewers covered, this panopto app is flat out inconvenient.
My biggest grip with this app is that it forces itself to open up in portrait orientation even when your device is oriented horizontally. I don’t want to view videos and navigate on an iPad in portrait orientation. Respect the user’s current usage of the device.
Yep, you managed to create disappointment. If I were the creators I would see how the view is from a 10p story building. Such garbage so laggy, never remembers video progress. Do me a favor and look down, pretty tiny isn’t it.
On the desktop version the presentation slides are visible, but on the iPhone app, I can only hear the sound and the screen is blank when there should be presentation slides.
I hate that I have to use this app for class. My professor records herself speaking and going through the slides for class. The audio never matches up with video of the slides.
