App works very well, I just wish I had the ability to quickly whitelist sites instead of having to go through the app and whitelist it manually every time I set a rule. If it had that,I think this app would be a perfect and quick solution for its users!
I wanted a content blocker that could eliminate annoying modals (popup elements that do not move with scrolling) on some websites I like to frequent, all without needing full website access. Roadblock custom rules lets me do this! My only concern is the difficulty to use this feature. Fortunately I have experience with some lesser content blockers (and browser developer modes and javascript) so I knew to write “[class^=modal]” in the Hide Content “selector” rule, otherwise figuring out how to block would have been impossible. The online guide has almost nothing to say about how to figure out what to write in the “selector” section. Some instructions and a few examples would be helpful here! Otherwise, your app is small, sleek, syncs, and well worth the $2 for custom rules and a privacy-respecting design. Thank you!
Nothing could be found anywhere that allows for automatically downloading and automatically playing videos to be blocked. It was as if the app store is in cahoots with the large telecoms so that they can hook everybody on their useless overpriced 'unlimited' plans. Just two or three news related websites (yes the mobile versions!) would end up costing me over 150mb in data alone. With blocking video, it reduces that data usage down to under 3mb. Its a life savor if you are on a pay-as-you-go plan and do knot want to spend money on a useless 'unlimited' plan that inly gets throttled, anyway. The one time fee for this feature in the app will pay for itself very quickly.
Not only an “Ad Blocker”, but can be used for Content Blocker!
My first app review ever! Wow! I am so happy and relieved. I found a way to block internet stories about Trump! Like him or hate him...there is just too much about him every day! It was overwhelming. I downloaded Roadblock because it also allows “custom settings”. After one email exchange with the developer, in the custom settings I wrote “Trump”, and now 90% of the stories never show on my browser and the 10% that slip through don’t allow me to click through to the article!!! The developer wrote that the app “currently only allows filtering based on things that match in the URL. For example, you can block URLs if "trump" appears anywhere in the URL.” That is why I got a 90% success rate instead of 100%. The developer then wrote: “We will add the ability to hide content based on matching things in URLs in the next update.” For my purposes, the 90% Reduction in Trump stories is amazing for my internet experience. Then, with the blocking of “advertising”, I am thrilled with this app. Well worth the $1.99. I have an amazing feeling of freedom today!!!
There are a couple of websites I frequent which have autoplay videos — either promos or ads — on every single page. I made custom rules to block media from those two domains, and poof, no more videos on those sites. (Note that this blocks ALL video from a site, not just ads or whatnot, but multiple profiles make it possible to change between rule sets when blocking is not needed.) Easy to understand interface for intermediate users, options are plentiful and straightforward. Well worth the purchase.
I loved this app, it does everything I need it to do. However I’m very disappointed that when they changed from a one-time purchase to a subscription model, they did not “grandfather in” people who had previously made the one-time purchase. Other apps that have made that merchandising switch have allowed purchasers to keep the features they paid for. I still use several apps that I paid for once almost 10 years ago, even though I don’t get the new features without a subscription. I think it’s the right thing to do. I’m disappointed that it was not done here. I’ll look for another app that stands by their promises.
What happened? I purchased legacy long time ago. App changed to subscription now? Update: Appreciate it that you've responded. However the problem persisted. The other features had a "lock" on them and upon pressing on them, I would be prompted to "subscribe." I went ahead and subscribed anyway. Definitely get my bucks worth all those years ago. I will continue to support. Keep up the good work Team!
My app no longer works on my phone and it’s broken. The “Web Resources” tab and media blocking options were removed and replaced with “Languages” tab. When I go to restore my purchases, nothing is restored. I just get some stupid bologna “Thank You” message and how the app has switched to a subscription app. Well done RoadBlock you’re well on your way to becoming irrelevant. The only unique function of this app was image blocking, however there are plenty of FREE options out there. All anyone has to do is search “Image Blocking.” Sayonara JERKS!
would it be exaggerating to say that this app is life changing? 🙂 The app has a huge number of features, but I use it specifically to block myself from social media across all my devices. Its very effective at this, and its enabled me to affirmatively say I’ve let go of social media addiction!! Many thanks to the developer.
Please continue to consider the poor who can't afford to pay for premium features, by giving them some of the features to help them browse free without being bugged by ads, and God will continue to elevate you.. Amen..🙏🏽🙏🏽
Be gone vile autoplaying videos of the nether realm
I’ve been looking for something like this forever, while it completely kills videos in Safari the trader is worth it for me, I can’t stand autoplaying videos...they are up there with ads. Thank you so much, you have no idea how this has changed using the iPad to browse for me now
I use Roadblock to block all cookies by default and manually whitelist certain sites. One feature that’s missing is a shortcut in Safari to quickly allow a website. Purify which I also use has a feature like this. Otherwise, works great.
Thank goodness for this app. It’s the only app of its kind that I have found. I would only love to see a few more features, such as a local log, as well as being able to block IP addresses and specific ports (in addition to domains/websites). Ain’t no reason my phone should be making an ssh connection.
This app is definitely powerful! This one has got to be the best one I have ever tried. The app comes with the ability to configure it in several ways. I’m so glad I purchased this one. In app purchases to unlock all the features is really low cost and absolutely worth it!
Besides just blocking images, Is there a way to make all websites look like simple HTML or so it shows the text only? Please help me with this as I want to confirm before I buy the $1.99 version
dear developer thank you very much for this application it makes life much more easier when im trying to watch any Asian show i dont get those annoying pop ups anymore
Where’d this little gem come from? An astonishingly good little app that works great with Safari. And it’s only $1.99 to own it! Better yet, there’s a version for Mac!
This app takes regular expression forms, and provides a content filter that I hope will always be available. One of the best apps in the current days of harvesting futures through surveillance capitalism.
Use very little CPU and disk resources. Works great and blocks everything according to ADblock test website. It is inexpensive and does not require a subscription. My only gripe is the missing toolbar extension from the legacy version. I was using 1Blocker for years and noticed it was using more and more resources and my pages were loading slower.
I bought this extension so that I could block any porn sites the children might try to look up or accidentally come across but it will only do specific ones and I do not have the time to block each and every individual website. That was a waste of my $2.11.
Makes no attempt at blocking specifically pesky auto play videos, just takes the nuclear approach and blocks all videos. When I want to turn the video blocking functionality off, it does not gracefully do so.
The only feature I downloaded this for is an in-app purchase.
The only feature I downloaded this for (image blocking) is apparently an in-app purchase. It would have been convenient if that were listed in the description instead of inside the app after it is downloaded.
They will make you set it all up then ask you to pay. Lol you guys expect to have people actually pay after all of that. Yeah not how good business is done
It hasn’t blocked a single website that I’ve requested to be blocked. Have built profile, tried enabling, disabling, then reenabling again. Very, very disappointed!!
I would be fine with this if it said on the tin it was 1.99, but no where does it say it costs to use. Don’t hide the price, developers! It’s rude and drives away would-be customers
This Content Blocker is by far the best I have used. I have tested the other major three, including the one that was removed by the developer. This one is simple, and makes browsing super fast while on my iPhone. This Content Blocker needs more attention, and more users need to try it. Simply the best.
This is a great ad blocker, no sites appear broken and Safari does load quicker. Also as a bonus, the developer makes an Ad Blocker for Safari on my Mac!!!! Yep, the best freakin ad blocker on my Mac that I have tried.
This used to be a simple app that did everything it purported to do and it was easy to use, but it stopped working. Updating seemed to actually make it LESS functional. Maybe a change in Safari or MacOS disabled it's core functionality? Version 2.0.4 is a bust. I hope this gets fixed.
Why offer this for "free" if it doesn't do anything?
Why offer a "free" version if you have to use an in app purchase to get it to block anything? Why not just price it up front instead of being sneaky. Update: the Description doesn't list which features are free and which are paid. That's my main complaint. How hard would it be to specify that in the description?
This extension is a total scam. It showed up in my Sarari extensions list one day without me ever knowingly downloading it nor even having heard of it. I was skeptical, but tried it out anyway. I also have AdBlock installed. I went to a site that has a lot of ads and it not only showed those ads but added even more! It seems to take the ad spaces that AdBlock blocks and add it’s own junk ads.
This is a very good ad blocker—less fiddly than 1Blocker—but it really needs sync. The developer has released a number of updates, so I hope that's next.
Doesn’t block websites when inputted and doesn’t handle regex. Waste of $2. This is after turning it off and on in the safari content blocker settings several times. Update: Looks like it’s silently failing to the regular expression I’m giving it. Works when removed. The regex support is why I paid for the app. /(old|www).reddit.com(?:\/r\/[a-z-0-9]+)?(?:\/)?(?![a-z-0-9/])/g Update: Marking it 5 stars to be kind to the developer. Updating the regex to be Safari API compatible fixed this but I ended up going to 1Blocker so I haven’t been able to test it here.
Does not block YouTube ads, Reddit or Imgur apm banner ads. It is a scam that tricks people into buying the app fake features. Nothing works, not even custom rules.
I write very few reviews. This is exactly what I have been looking for! It took me a minute to figure out how to get it set up and then there was a certain amount of time involved setting it up. I don’t do social media and now I don’t see what I don’t want to see. Virtually everything from the ALPHABET is blocked. It DOES break a few things, but I have only found one website so far that I can’t log in to. If I have a need to watch a video that isn’t on Vimeo I use The DuckDuckGo browser and when I’m done zap everything. WELL worth the IAP price. To the negative reviewers, pull your heads’ out! Thank you so much for this app!
