You wouldn’t think an app like this would be necessary, right? Wrong! Even the best of us need a reminder (some need a CONSTANT reminder) what week it is. Is this recycling pick up week? Is heavy trash pick up this week or next? Is it junk waste or tree limbs? This simple app puts the answers right at your fingertips. No more trying to maneuver the city website. I use it all the time and my neighbors should too. Being on the board of the HOA not a week goes by that I don’t get a call inquiring about trash pick up. It’s great for new residents who aren’t familiar with the schedule ALSO I have a friend who is a real estate agent. He is always asking me to use my Rollout app and tell him when pick up is in at a certain address so he can tell contractors or cleaning people at his listings when they can put the trash at the curb. A great tool for anyone cleaning out a house in a neighborhood where they don’t know the schedule. I’ve also been told by a “picker” who goes around the day before heavy trash day looking for treasurers that people throw away, that he uses it to chart his course for the week. There are a lot of uses for lots of different people. It’s a great app!! Very helpful and easy to use.
I installed this app shortly after moving to Kingwood in June 2024 and the recycling which is supposed to be picked up every other Tuesday never happened. It was picked up on Wednesdays. This often resulted in the recycling bins being left out for two days. After contacting the developer a couple of weeks ago requesting information he took it upon himself to contact the city of Houston and today the recycling truck came around a couple of hours after trash pickup. Fortunately I was home and heard it down the street and was able to get my bin to the street. Unfortunately, many neighbors were not home so I expect their recycling bins will be out tomorrow, for no telling how long! Let’s hope this glitch has been resolved and everyone will be on the same schedule soon!
We had been going online to the HTX trash pickup website and it was just a hassle. Then we learned about the HTX trash app but it was often wrong or not updated. FINALLY someone on Nextdoor mentioned this app in a comment section and it’s cut a lot of wasted time worrying about trash/recycling/ bulk days and wasted time moving the different cans up and down the back area and driveway. Not to mention having to move vehicles or ask neighbors to move vehicles, if parked too close or right where the cans go. Waaaayy too long of a review just to say I’m happy this app exists and the schedules are updated well. Thanks developer!
The app is totally backwards on its mainfunction of advising of specific trash/recycling pick up at one's home, as the schedule it shows for my address does not matchthe 2017 on-line recycling calendar just published by the City of Houston. The app does have some good general info about trash guidelines, recycling drop-off centers, etc., but some users may not even find it, as the only way to access that info is to accidentally tap an icons on the page with the incorrect info. Good idea, but needs work. Hope corrections are made, as it would be very useful if accurate!!!
I really do rely on this app on a weekly basis ever since it rolled out. With Houston's biweekly recycling pickup I find myself consulting the app every trash day. When I recently notified the developer of an schedule error the problem was corrected in hours. Thanks so much for this most wonderful app.
This is a great little app. If you have an issue (like it didn’t load the address once for me), just contact them and it is quickly addressed! Wonderful and responsive service! Thanks!
I can’t remember garbage, recycling, heavy trash, tree waste pick up dates. This app is very helpful to search any property and remind you to take out the trash in the City of Houston. Tell your friends to download the app. -act
Developer very responsive...simple app that works great
I contacted the developer about a defect and he responded to me in under 5 minutes and after reviewing the issue, got in touch with the city of Houston to have them address the issue with their servers. Tried the app the. next day, and it worked! Simple and clean app... Now I have the waste Mgmt schedules readily available whenever needed! Thanks Kenton!
Why doesn’t this app reflect the holiday schedule? Today is Memorial Day 2021 but yet the app says my trash will be picked up. But it won’t. Until tomorrow. Such a simple app should know Houston’s holiday schedule.
Frustrating that the app does not update schedules for holidays. Instead, the app refers you to a website for the schedule. Not sure of the point if the app does not consolidate that type of information.
There is a message within Rollout that states that the city of Houston does not recycle glass in the bins. The city started recycling glass again so glass in bins is OK!
After update, on iPhone 6s/iOS 10, days are shown left to right. Only one day shows and other days are off the screen to the right. Scrolling disabled.
“Don’t miss a recycling day”? Don’t bet on it. This app does not show the correct recycling schedule any more: it is off by a week, which means that, as far as recycling is concerned, it is ALWAYS wrong.
I downloaded this app and then I deleted it. It could've been really great, but it is so limited it is not worth the MB's of space you have to waste for it. You can input your address for your specific schedule, but then it uses the entire screen to tell you what pickup happens that week. Big waste of space. To make it worthwhile, it could have lots more information. It could include holiday trash scheduling. It would also be great if it would give you a list of the city approved compostable bags for yard waste and some idea where you can buy them. That information is available online so it could be in the app. Also, it would be very helpful if there was a page that lists recycling locations in the city - not only for electronics and that sort of thing, but also the location on So Post Oak for chemicals, paint, etc. It could tell you where and how to dispose of construction waste. Again, the city posts all that info online so why don't they have it in this app as well? Alternatively, it could provide links to find the information online. I was hoping it would be very helpful, but it really isn't. Hopefully, they will put more effort into it and improve the app.
This app is awesome!! You'll use it much more than you think; I set it to remind me the weekend before junk and tree waste days (once every other month) so I can spend time cleaning out the garage and yard accordingly. The app experiences occasional performance issues when the City's data feed goes down but those are resolved quickly and I hear the City is fixing the issue along with the holiday schedules that are tricky. Everyone I've shown this app to has downloaded it and uses it regularly.
I really like this app a lot and will continue to use it. However, it says tree trash is on the even months, but on the Houston official website it says tree trash pickup is on the odd months. Heavy trash is on the even months.
Very easy to use app, it's updated and shows the correct heavy junk pickup and tree waste months correctly. I think this will be very useful when a holiday shifts the pickup days around.
This app was simple and great info and reminders about different types of trash pickup. 5 stars until the location broke. It won't recognize and no longer recognizes connection to the Internet. Fix it and I will re-download! Awesome when working.
You have the wrong type of heavy trash for August. Even months are junk & tree. Odd months are tree only. Several comments on earlier dates have noted this but info is still wrong.
I discovered today that the app has a bug when it comes to holiday schedules. July 4, for example, is a holiday, but the app shows regular trash and recycle pickup. The COH holiday schedule moves the pickup to July 5.
We moved zip codes in Houston from 77018 to 77026 and our trash/recycling schedule is opposite of what it should be! I called the city and they told me not use an app not ran by the city.
Rollout! is a simple app to make figuring out Houston's trash pickup easy! Forget about peeking outside to see if your neighbor's bins are out, with Rollout! we use your phone to look up your location and instantly let you see your schedule for your neighborhood. You can set up reminders to tell you when to take out your trash to make sure you don't miss recycling day again. Rollout! is a labor of love by Kenton Gray (@kentonue). NOTE: This app is only available for areas covered under City of Houston Solid Waste Management. Some places like unincorporated areas or town homes and apartments may not be covered by City of Houston.
