Does your car make annoying noise like the booming sound? This tool can help quantify that noise level and identity the precise frequency. By taking measurements with this tool you can track your progress toward eradicating the noise. You will likely need to fill in empty spaces in the car with foam or sound deadening material like Kilmat 80mm. With reduced air in a cavity sound level will be lowered. This app displays the sound spectrum in real time and can show the peak value. You can also press the red record button and use the File app to see the CSV file or air drop the file to a Mac for deeper analysis. This app is open source at GitHub and is the best at what it does. This app could be enhanced to add display for the recorded log so users don’t need to analyze via computer. Also would be helpful to display the peak value and frequency on the spectrum display. Thank you for making this app!
I worked at a company many years ago in graduate school that engineered and manufactured professional-grade calibration microphones, spectrum analyzers, sound level meters, and dosimeters. Each device cost premium $. And today I just pressed a “Get” button on my iPhone, itself a miracle, and suddenly I have, for free, a spectrum analyzer and sound level meter with options for display, weighting, speed, peak and RMS, etc. And I haven’t even tried the magnetic field sensor option yet. I have not yet verified and compared this system with calibrated equipment, but for quick acoustic analysis and troubleshooting purposes, this is a godsend. Miraculous. Thank you developers for your hard work and talent in bringing this technology to the masses.
Update: After some online research and comparisons I’ve realized that this app (as the developer mentioned) is very accurate, the singing bowl is indeed 440 Hz. I also measured the frequency of some meditation sounds and they all been perfect. I’ve deleted all others apps that I installed in my phone for this purpose, I’m more than happy with this app. I’ve just got a Tibetan singing bowl and I was just curious about it’s vibration, so it shows 440 Hz, which is considered to be a bad, destructive frequency, unlike a soothing singing bowl should be. Other 2 such apps I have show a totally different number. I’m not saying this is a bad app….I’m just very surprised about the numbers I’ve got.
As a working musician and recording engineer, I depend on reliable equipment for my overall results. This app allows me to have a very portable, accurate measuring device that fits on a music stand. Of course there are always going to be some limitations with any device. A cellphone, iPad, or laptop doesn’t have a built in calibration reference microphone. However, just to get an idea of loudness contours, at all audible frequencies, is a huge plus. When setting sound pressure levels and equalizer bands on a PA system, this app and your ears is really all you need to get a very accurate mix.
The recent change to zooming is awesome, and I love you for it. One thing that I would like changed is the scale for VIB Scope. Right now, negative values wrap around and become positive again, making it hard to read the graph in certain circumstances. If the 0 could be put in the middle and have equal amounts of negative values as positive values, that tool would be more useful for me. Also, I was fine with the ads. If you want to add an opt-in ad toggle in the settings, I wouldn't mind leaving it on.
So many features. Truly free. You’d be nuts not to try this out! Many thanks to the developer for their donation-based funding approach. “In app purchases” are a way to get you roped in after downloading a “free” app. The app is fantastic. Everything you need in a analyzer app like this. I’ve tried many; this is as good as I’ve seen. I have since uninstalled a dozen others (including a couple paid-for apps).
This is an unbelievable app. I have ultrasonic motion detectors that are supposed to deter unwanted wildlife on my property. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to determine if they were working correctly. We’ll, this app immediately picks up the sound being emitted and identifies the frequency as well as it’s strength. Thanks for the hard work in developing this product! Much appreciated!
I'm a pro audio guy, and this app has been a real help on the job. I have to work in multiple rooms at conventions and resorts. Having a tool like this on my phone is a life saver. You cant have a computer and mic with you, everywhere you go. This app does the trick in helping me find frequencies that are feeding back , and to check sound levels in a corperate environment. A real life saver!
Adds another amazing tool to your iPhone ! 🤫Get it!
Db Meyer, XYZ vibration meter. Oscilloscope. Frequency meter. Magnetic feild meter. And that’s not even half of the functions. I often do field recording work and this app is quick and easy because my phone is already in my hand recording. Eliminates gear. I even think it told me “I love you” JK it did and it high 5 me. Thanks extremely smart people on the other side of this message. No adds and free....😯😧💩
Great app! I am using it to check frequency response from tap tones. I would love in the future if there to be a single shot trigger feature along side with the already existing peak hold values for the frequency sound spectrum plot. A zoom in to see each relative peak and that specific frequency would also be a great feature for my use! Thanks again for a great app!
Needed an app to figure out what wavelengths an annoying heterodyning sound (my downstairs neighbors’ SIXTY DECIBAL bathroom fan that they leave on for about 14 hours a day) was hitting so I can work on a better masking white-ish noise generator. The first pane of this app was exactly what I needed. Went looking for a “buy the developer a coffee” button but found none. You should fix this! 🙃
Excellent set of audio tools, highly recommend it.
I won’t pretend to know what most of the measuring tools in this app are for or how they work, I was just looking for an oscilloscope. Excellent quality meters and visualizations for audio with a sampling rate that rivals professional hardware. I can tell it will be very useful as I continue to learn more about audio engineering.
Sonic Tools is packed with useful features. The spectrum analyzers is perfect for live sound reinforcement. Does everything and more, exceeding the performance and features of any other analyzer app I’ve tried -even the expensive ones! A must for your iPad and iPhone. Well done Rikki! You should be charging for this app, or at least a tip bucket. Thanks.
Very handy tool. Especially for collecting large data sets that can be compiled and analyze for a variety of case studies as well as deep learning Ai. The only improvement that I would suggest is some form of visual vector based network analyzer which would provide one the ability to directionally trace the origin of an incoming signal.
Other than the fact that it doesn’t use a frequency compensated microphone this product is awesome. I would like to see the specification for the internal microphone of an iPhone 11 Pro Max vs older IPad. Eventually you will probably be able to buy one that plugs into the lightning port.
I'm getting older and the treble knob is slowing turning down. This tool not only helps me have a visual representation that's independent of my computer, but helps me when my wife asks "Do you hear that noise?!". I can only hear to 11.5 kHz so this tool is invaluable!
I feel that apps like this increase the value of your phone because it opens up doors for uses that the average person doesn’t think about. Nothing replaces the right tool for the right job but definitely serves its purpose
Literally the app was perfect up until the MF Scope stopped working. Even the VIB scope is super glitchy and laggy beyond what it was before. It’s really unfortunate but I’m not longer downloading the app unless it’s corrected. Otherwise, this was a perfect app that did it all.
I was about to ask for zoom in but I guess you guys already have it in the app. Best analyzer on the app store by far. But can you allow people to change which microphone they are using. (Back, front, bottom)
I usually don’t respond to review requests that pop up the second an app is started. But, I could tell immediately by the display running in the background that this was exactly what I wanted. I was just looking for a spectrum analyzers to visuallay help me set my audio equipment.
This app is the best all in one sound monitoring tool I have come across (with the added bonus of a magnetometer and accelerometer). I love that I only need this app for all my sound measuring. One thing I wish it had was the frequencies of the first few strongest peaks in the spectrum mode. Great app, fantastic job!
Although i can’t explain how i know this is accurate, i can tell you, positively, without a doubt, this app is super accurate. This app is about as accurate that any civilian would need it to be.
Great app, and actually works without hidden fees.
Honestly it shouldn’t be too much to ask for a spectrograph for free, but I’ve seen other apps charge 50$+ for something way less responsive than this app. Thank you so much to the developer of this app!
This does everything I wanted. Time in milliseconds on x axis with waveform. You can pinch the scales to change the scale of x and y axis. Has a lot more features that I do not fully understand. If there was a user manual I could say more, but I do not know what all the screen symbols are.
I have tried several apps to measure peak and continuous sound intensity and frequency and this one is far and away the best. No non-sense, consistent readings for technical minded folks. Helped me diagnose and dampen sound escaping the engine room on my boat.
It's basically a hodgepodge of semi-useful audio tools. It feels like someone built it for their specific needs for a project and then shipped it without any polish. The UI is terrible (overlapping elements everywhere), and many functions don't seem to work at all, e.g. posedge/negedge trigger for waveform doesn't seem to work. Unlabeled slider below it doesn't seem to do anything.
I recommend this app to my students to explore sound on their own after we study it in science with lab equipment. Using it is like fuel for their curiosity and comprehension! Thank you so much.
It's rare you find an app this small (3.5MB!) and this capable that runs as smoothly with as many features. The best part - it's free. I nearly flipped my lid when I found out I could find all the magnets in my computer lid with this thing.
So, I was wondering if you are able to use audio files. Is that doable? Also I do not know how to view recording on my device. I know how to record them, but not view them. Can You respond to this?
This app is a great utility, thank you so much for doing this and making it free. A feature that would be fantastic is being able to export data files with a share button
Works nicely but always crashes when opened a second or subsequent time. I have to download and install each time I want to use it. IOS 12, iPhone 6plus.
I don’t totally grasp what all I’m looking at yet but I’m checking it out. I may find it useful at some point but for now I find it entertaining and sort of fun to explore.
This app was not developed for users who want accurate measurements. It might be fun for kids or laymen to play around with — worthy of two stars. It doesn't have a menu or the option to adjust settings, but it does have annoying advertisement banners. Download with low expectations and you won't be terribly disappointed — at least it's free.
There’s a lot of different measurements to be had from this app all for free. It doesn’t have the clutter and complexity of possibly more ‘sophisticated’ (and pricey) apps. For my purposes and maybe yours, this can be advantageous. Simple yet effective!
This is the only free oscilloscope app that I know of and it works great! It has light ads and no pop up ads. I would definitely suggest this to other people.
I can’t say how grateful I am for this wonderful and useful app. Used it to heal my mother of cancer with an EMF / Rife machine using the oscillator tool. God bless the devs for keeping this app free THANK YOU ❤️
Would like to have a background color of ‘Spectrogram’ in BLACK instead of BLUE(current color)._____ One of the best free sound analyzer app on iPhone/iPad,_____ Thank you dev
This is now the best inexpensive analyzer in the App Store. The graphs and curve displays are clear and range from 20 to 20,000 cycles. The developer constantly does updates on this app.
It seems to be reading the frequencies me and others are generating at 2hz too sharp. Other than that, it's a great tool. The developer should fix that and charge 99c for it at least
This is an analyzer for sound, vibration and magnetic field. Overall we have the following measuring functions. As the source code of this is widely published as an open source software on GitHub, you can make custom version of this. And also we welcome sponsers of Github Sponsers or patrons on Patreon. See the bttom of this. * Sound (Analyzer [FFT / RTA / Spectrogram], Scope, RMS, Signal Generator) * Vibration (Analyzer [FFT], Scope, RMS) * Magnetic field (Scope, RMS) You can pinch (zoom) and pan (scroll) on measurement screens other than RTA and spectrogram, and pan (band selection) on RTA. You can pause by tapping the measurement screen. Since the measurement time is displayed at the time of pause, it is suitable for leaving as evidence. Please take a screenshot of the screen in the system standard way. [Application example] · Record the present situation as quantitative evidence, such as by using recording and use it for the improvement of obstacles. · Use it for science education. · Use it along with the sweep generator to improve the acoustic characteristics of the listening room. Octave RTA (real-time analyzer) has two configurable items, Please use "Settings .app" and change the following as necessary. · Window function · Latency Note: This application has an audio signal oscillation function, and depending on the operation it may generate sound that is harmful to the human body, so please refrain from using things like headphones or headsets. We are not responsible for damage caused by using that equipment. The resolution of the spectrum analysis of speech is about 11 Hz inherent, however, the actual resolution is in the maximum of 3 Hz by interpolation processing. It is not the accuracy that can be used to tune an instrument. Please use the instrument tuning application for that purpose. If you can not find the current point by zooming in or scrolling, you can return to the default state that you can see the whole picture by pressing and holding the measurement screen long. If a remarkable peak near 1 Hz lasts for more than 10 seconds from the beginning of the spectrum analysis results. It will ignore the peak below 1 Hz after 10 seconds. In most cases, this might happen when the accelerometer is dull. For a good result with Octave RTA, we recommend using Window Function and Fast Latency Mode. The adjustable range of the FFT/Scope/RMS gain is from -20 dB to 20 dB. The adjustable range of the SP gain is from 0 dB to 80 dB. The noise reduction threshold is from -80 dB to 0 dB. Allows you to output the data of Sound Spectrum, Sound Spectrogram, and every RMS'. You can use the data files by Files.app on iOS or iTunes File Sharing on Mac. Please note that the output file of Spectrogram is not small not like other data files. [Method of being a sponser of Github Sponsers] 1. Visit https://github.com/tmatsugaki. 2. Push "Sponser" button. --- [Method of being a patron of Patreon] 1. Search "Sonic Tools SVM" on Patreon. 2. Push "Join" button of a rank of member ships. You can take a chance to get skills to modify this app and so on. Just a donation also welcome.
