This guy accurately predicted Harvey and how much rain it would produce 7 days early. He also predicted the 2021 freeze 12 days early, when all the hack weather people were dismissing the possibility. He not only predicted the freeze, but his forecast temperature map was within 3 degrees of what happened. On top of that, he frequently posts actually entertaining and informative stories about the weather. Idiot-savant, genius, omniscient, whatever the heck he is, he is the only weather person I listen to.
First let me say that I love Space City Weather. They are a no-hype no sugar coat source of weather information and their blog posts are full of detail on what to expect and why. But this app is just disappointing. It’s is now 9/1/23 but the app keeps giving me the weather report for 8/8/23. It’s been like that since 8/8 no matter how many times I close and reopen the app which I’ve done many times. I did install the update when they recently put that out for download. I’m thinking maybe I need to uninstall and then maybe try again. I tried to reach out to the developer but have t heard anything back - maybe I didn’t get to the right person, I don’t know.
The original version of the app focused primarily on the daily blog posts which by themselves made this app well-worthwhile, but there was still a need to reference other weather apps for daily / hour-by-hour forecasts. However the recent updates have added all of that functionality, cleared out any minor bugs, and have truly made this a comprehensive app for all things weather in the Houston. Highly recommend this app if you live in Houston.
In late 2023, the app was full of glitches and the expert advice was not downloading properly. Fast forward to now, and the glitches have been fixed! The weather info has always been amazing and now the app reaches its full potential. For the most accurate professional weather forecasting in SE Texas that informs you about possibilities and things without all the fear mongering and hype, this is your app!
Our daughter, son-in-law and their kids live in Houston (Bellaire). They recommended your app to us several years ago. We live in South Florida and hurricane season is a stressful time for us. Your app helps us connect and better understand what is happening in Houston without calling or texting our kids every hour. Thank you and keep up the great work.
So so app needs improvement, but the SCW weather posts rock
What the app lacks in detailed weather information by area, it excels in the weather synopsis every morning (more frequently during inclement weather) by Berger and Lanza for Houston and adjacent areas. They also report on weather trivia, like drought conditions, inches or feet of rain, and record high and low temperatures. They also give it a personal touch which I find very nice. There’s not much else to offer in the app that you can’t find in any other basic weather app, but it is recommended for their weather summaries. Hopefully the app will evolve going forward.
I’ve been relying on Space City Weather (the website) as long as I’ve lived in Houston. Now they have an app and it works perfectly. I can get local conditions right on my home screen. The prominence of the current relative humidity in the app really demonstrates the ways this app is able to differentiate itself from your usual weather apps. Perfect complement to RadarScope.
I’ve been following Space City Weather since Hurricane Harvey and let me tell you, they are nothing but professional & honest! They’re not all about hyping people up & causing mass panic. They focus on the facts, prepare you for what’s really happening, and tell it like it is. I’m so glad they made an app that I can rely on for weather updates 😊 thank you Space City Weather!
I discovered SCW from Ft. Bend County. This site is actually one they utilize. I am so impressed with Space City Weather and Eric and Matt. These guys are absolutely the best and on the money. I love the daily emails I elected to receive with current conditions and forecast expectations. Download and you won’t be disappointed. Thank you both for your hard work.
Excellent source of dependable weather forecasts with accurate information. No hype or frenzy here just the facts with years of experience to back them up. Only suggestion to make it better would be to allow zoom on radar. So glad your app is here before hurricane season, I’ve been anxiously waiting! Thanks guys!
Eric and Matt have been killing it for years on their daily blog...can’t tell you how valuable they’ve been for the Houston community during all these crazy weather events and this app is an awesome way to consolidate even more information. Very happy for this app to finally hit the App Store for all us Space City and surrounding area folks! Great work guys!!!
Matt and Eric KNOW what they’re talking about when it comes to Houston and weather. They were one of the only people that knew what devastation Harvey had in store for the city and warned civilians before-hand. This app is extremely practical, ad-free, and the blog posts they write on a daily basis are extremely informative. All in all just an amazing app and team of people.
Love this app, alllll facts and zero hype. When I first moved here from the PNW someone told me about space city weather and I haven’t looked back. The application is fantastic, but I sure wish there was a dark mode. Kind of perplexing that there isn’t considering it’s almost a default with every application. Next update — go dark!
I have been waiting on this a little while now and it’s finally here. Whether you need clear accuracy or if you’re just too much and require multiple sources for your weather here in Houston, this app is for you. I look forward to having this help me make informed decisions that involve the weather.
So much better than other sites where the reader gets swallowed by ads and pop ups. SCW gets right to the meat of the weather with accuracy and humor and a really accurate forecasting record going back to my first experience with them during Harvey where he nailed it
Living in Houston, it is vitally important to have accurate weather predictions. I’ve been following Space City Weather for years and have relied on it for years. Never disappointed. Don’t buy out the grocery store until checking with them first.
Overall this is my favorite local weather app. The write up for forecast is always to the point and helpful. The ONLY thing I feel the app is missing is the rain chance percentages. I prefer the percentages rather than just a rain icon. Other than that it’s my most trusted source for weather.
If you live anywhere near or around Harris county this is the must download weather application for you. No hype weather forecasts that inform rather the fear-monger as the TV news does. Bottom line if you need to know when it is time to evacuate the city (even as far away as Katy) they got you covered.
So excited for this app. Previously referred all my friends and colleagues in Houston to Space City Weather website for most accurate forecast and now I’m directing them to this app. App is User friendly, up to date, and consistent. Thanks Space City Weather Team!
I love it. Currently only one radar shows I assume in coming days there will be updates which include more radar views. Also for iPad there is no settings for landscape mode, please include for future updates. Will you be adding hurricane tracking? That’ll will be great. Ashok
The app is awesome for Houstonians looking for a no-frills look at the weather. The only thing I would like added is an option for dark mode. I use dark mode for everything and it would be a nice option to have for users who prefer the dark 😎
In the Houston area and tired of weather + news + social media + etc.? Looking for a weather app that lays it out plain without any of the distracting nonsense? Then this is what you’re looking for. Simple, straightforward predictions presented on a simple, straightforward interface. Five stars.
The Space City Weather team has been a friend of mine for quite some time. I love their emails and attention to detail, re: all things Houston weather. Their daily emails are my friend, my reliable friend. This app will be digital gold, or crypto currency (or NFTs). Thanks team!
The app was working fine until the update a few weeks ago. Now the radar won’t load. As for the weather predictions, those are good, but need to fix the glitch. I have two cell phones and tried it on there. Same issue. Won’t load.
The crew have brought us a beautiful, clutter-free, wholesome weather app for Houstonians. Ad-free, no in-app purchases—incredible! The only thing I’m going to miss from the desktop website is that picture of the Nasa rocket 🤗 Thank you Eric and Matt! Thank you Reliant! Thank you Hussain Abbasi and Arnold Ventures!
I really appreciate the straight forward approach these guys have. They don’t try to sensationalize weather forecasting, they just tell us what we need to know accurately and give a common sense approach on what to expect and how to react or deal with weather events. Keep it up!
These guys are making a terrific job! They are honest, knowledgeable and very easy to understand. It is not a fancy App with live video/radar, pictures, alert notifications and maps but just a very simple one. If you live H-town that’s the App to have !i
I depend on Space City Weather for timely, accurate, hype-free weather forecasts and updates year round. Eric and Matt are so knowledgeable and I appreciate everything they do for the city, especially during hurricane season. Thank you to everyone who made this new SCW app happen!
Houston’s favorite weather site has given us the app we didn’t know we needed! This app is clean, hype-free, and full of the meteorological content we have come to know and rely on. Thank you, Eric and Matt, for doing what you do so well, and thank you to the app development team!
Great app from a great weather forecasting duo. These guys do a fantastic job of providing easy to understand, conversational style weather updates that impact Houston and the surroundings. From hurricanes to winter vortexes these guys give honest details about what to expect and why it matters. Thanks!
Thank you for not tracking me with this app, so many weather apps are primarily for user data gathering with a weather app thrown in. So far the app seems great! Simple and straightforward, which is what I expect from Space City Weather.
Best weather forecast, the guys don’t act like the end is near (unless it’s a Cat 5), they continually update their forecasts even through middle of night. Accurate, and humble if they make a bad call. App is easy to use, everything I need.
While the daily posts in the app are great, I have the same issues with the app as others. My weather is stuck on August 4 and if I click on the push notification to open app it crashes. If those 2 things could ever get fixed this would be a 10 star app.
Great app. Just one bug(?) The weather radar doesn’t seem to update. Currently a band of thunderstorms… but not present on the radar. Possibly gif not updating from national weather service.
I absolutely love the clean, minimalist UI - very easy to read the information given. The “cards” design scheme is very nice as well. The one suggestion is to create an iOS widget for iPhone, preferable a 2x2 and 4x2 one - I would also love a radar widget!
It’s everything I thought it would be. Easy to navigate, accurate for my area, and there isn’t a bunch of clutter from ad’s. I’m look forward to ditching my other weather apps!
I love this app. It’s simple, informative, and doesn’t track my every move. I’ve deleted all other weather apps. As for the weather forecasts: these guys do not hype or fluff, just solid accurate predictions.
I’ve been following Eric for a decade and Space City Weather since it has existed. Eric and the team are thorough, informative, humorous, and hype-free. In short, they’re awesome. I never post reviews but am glad to support Space City Weather.
Weather forecasting is sub par and the witty banter is annoying
2024 has not been good to these guys. They called late Feb as the last chance for 40’s - which proved wrong half a dozen times afterwards. Then they said the MS 150 weather would be mild and not windy. Then I have to sift thru their banter and opining on how terrible Houston weather is to get to an actual forecast. Guys, you are not Jimmy Fallon or James Colbert. Stick to just the weather and I’ll pay attention again.
I read the commentary every day and it is the best forecast in Houston. The rest of the app has some broken links regarding date and daily forecasts . Right now the temp is 72 and the says 82 in one place sunrise at midnight. Then forecastsTuesday at 103 degrees when t He discussion says 80 s.
Couldn’t be happier to have info from Space City Weather at my fingertips!! Thanks to everyone involved for making this happen!! The app is extremely user friendly and easy to navigate...so happy!!
I don’t trust anyone else but Space City for my weather reports! I look forward to their daily updates and information, especially during hurricane events.
We have come to rely on Space City Weather during hurricane season especially. Excited to finally have an app in addition to their detailed and no-hype emails.
If you live in Houston this is THE weather source. For being outside or knowing what storm precautions to take, this will give you the information you need.
These guys give solid, level-headed weather reports and forecasts that I trust strides further than any news outlet. Was just looking for a replacement to Weather Channel and couldn’t be happier this finally launched 🚀🚀🚀
Unfortunately this app hasn’t worked for me since June when the news feed stopped updating. I get push notifications that a new story has been posted, but there’s no way to read them via the app. Good meteorologists, not so good of an app experience.
I’ve been following these guys on FB and IG since Hurricane Harvey and they have been able to provide clear, factual, no-nonsense information. Great job on the app, as it mimics exactly what I come to expect.
Best source of weather forecasting for years. So good to get the same high quality information via app. well designed app! information is well displayed in a clean format
Giving this a 5 with hopes for addt’l functionality
Anything from Eric, Matt and team starts with 5 stars. I’d love to see interactive radar so I can use this as my sole weather app. Bonus points for a wind vector overlay!
I rarely review apps but this weather app is so awesome for Houston and people who follow Space City Weather. The written forecasts are detailed and fantastic. The app does not have ads, in app purchases, or tracking. Great job!
This is the official app from Space City Weather, the hyperlocal Houston weather site from Eric Berger and Matt Lanza. The SCW app brings to your mobile device everything from the site, and more, including: - Daily weather forecasts, weather topic discussions and detailed coverage of major weather events - Current conditions put the stats Houstonians care about most front and center. - Hourly and 7-day forecasts - National Weather Service (NWS) radar, weather discussions and alerts - Conditions and forecasts for 5 locations in the Greater Houston area: Houston, Hobby Airport, Conroe, Galveston, Katy - Notifications of new blog posts and urgent weather news - Clean, simple design for easy browsing and quick loading - Our usual nerdy humor What the SCW app does NOT have: Ads and tracking. We respect your privacy.
