From 1* - 4* Honestly, they are the cheapest option in town, they seem to have good service response so far, and the internet is quick and stable. Plus equipment and installation is free, no activation fee, and no contact. 1* off for the previous issue: When I called Starry they said it came in on 5G and all I would need to do is plug it into the power outlet in any room I wanted. I ordered it and then set up the installation figuring it would just be them making sure they got the wifi set up. NOPE. When the installer came, they needed access to my main phone lines and could only put it in a specific room. And wouldn’t set it up to use in even 2 rooms. This goes against EVERYTHING they told me on the phone. I verified multiple times when I called that I was 5G, just a power plug. Not at all. I needed this because I have a NAS that is too loud to have in the same room as our bed. Since it’s a 2 room house, it has to be one room or the other, and since we just moved in, we weren’t sure which room we would be staying in. I guess we don’t have a choice now.
Yeah idk they tricked me into upgrading to the 300mbps/60$ plan by throttling my internet. I also get a max of 10-25 mbps upload which is not what I signed up for. I have done everything short of using my own nighthawk, I have setup a static IP, created MAC address specific filtering, and updated every device to support WPA3 utilizing only 5GHz but yet I cap at 200mbps still. And customer service is impossible to get in touch with. They actually sneaked their way out of reimbursing me for my last internet provider cancellation bill by asking for a letter from them with very specific verbiage that was more work to obtain than it was worth. So yeah I’ve been paying 60$ a month for internet that goes out M - F until about 4 Pm. The only reason I can think they get bogged down during prime working hours is they are piggybacking another providers service. If they are smart they will do the right thing which is unthrottle my speed and give me what I paid for and comp me a couple months service for the inconvenience. All in all they have been easier to deal with then Xfinity though. I guess a duopoly is a big improvement from a monopoly. In Phoenix, Cox was the only ISP and I was paying 2-3x more for similar service so I guess I won’t complain too much.
Despite having contacted Starry support many times over the last six months, the internet connection reliability has never improved. Their customer service was mostly friendly (except in one instance) but it appears as if they, apart from recording the outages we report to them, never actually do anything meaningful to improve the reliability of their service. For months of unreliable internet service, and much hassle, frustration, annoyances etc. they gave us $25 off once. …yeah, that doesn’t quite cut it. A bit sad that it didn’t work out but we’ll switch back to Spectrum now, as we never had such problems with them. Addendum after Starry‘s response: Starry’s response to this review sounds nice, and I would like to appreciate it, but it doesn’t help as the problems persist. Despite the issue having been marked as „resolved“ by Starry‘s support, the internet was down today for about three hours, and is currently down again. I’m a bit surprised Starry didn’t already offer us a more substantial refund on their own, as the frequency of outages is getting way out of hand. If my work didn’t depend on it, it would almost be funny how ridiculously bad the experience has been lately.
Updated review from 1-4 stars: Everything works as it should now. Support very helpful. Just wish there was landscape mode and that there was a way to see which server we are receiving from (we got switched on accident somehow and didn’t know it). A few admin options regarding security/snooping would be great but as far as the app it works well! We like starry sooo much more than awful Verizon. App reads ‘Cannot connect to your Station Station’ however, I’m able to view devices connected or disconnected in real time but pausing or unpairing, or doing any actual functions has suddenly seized working and I get the above message. It was working fine before. And, no, I haven’t changed passwords or anything. Contacted Customer Support but...same message pops up so not able to request help. Weird.
I may be spoiled: I’ve been sitting on fat pipes, first at work and then in my last personal subscription. I’m starting to need streaming, where before 90% of my traffic was text; Starry does pretty well as a happy medium. It’s not the old dialup I used to ship my source text and it’s not the arm & leg payment of the fibre line with the growing cost cable dinosaurs. It may just be the Goldilocks zone of Internet.
The annoying thing about Starry is they will not or cannot admit when their service is down. At least with Comcast, you can easily look up outages in your area, but Starry gaslights you into thinking it’s your router by repeatedly telling you, “blue light means internet is on” even when it clearly is not working. And even when you confirm it’s a Starry problem they seem pathologically unable to admit guilt or give you any idea when the internet will be up again. It’s been 2 days and counting… Also yes their app is confusing, service chat bot is under your profile instead of the help area for some reason.
Look, there are a lot of things I love about having Starry. Like the fixed price and reliably fast upload and download speeds. Not sure if anyone else has this problem, but pretty much all the features they advertise for this app are unavailable to me. All I can do in my app is view my next bill and some support articles. No viewing connected devices or troubleshoot. Why as a fairly new customer (5 months or so) do I have an outdated product experience that does not match what you advertise? It’s pretty lame for your advertisements and experience to be so many worlds apart.
I love Starry, the technicians who came to my house were so friendly and informative. My internet is fast and reliable, I work from home almost everyday and never experience lagging or interruptions in service (unlike with xfinity 😬). I’m looking forward to using starry for many years to come and hope you will expand to offer cell phone service one day!
Dont ever use starry. Im done with it. Im on the $50 a month plan, but charges me $60 them credits my card only charging $46 and then turns around and charges me again telling me that I haven't paid, when they were the ones who charged my card twice messes it up, and tried to tell me that they have no record of it. My card alerts me I every time a purchase is made or attempted and I have recieved no such notification, so I know they are lying when they say that they attempted to charge my card 7 times. It was fine at first but its a scam, they charge you every two weeks
Starry’s internet service is a dream come true compared to the other companies. Since I don’t have a landline phone or need cable TV anymore, I don’t need a bundle and this lets me have the best speeds with no b.s. customer service, contracts, fees, etc. Flat price no matter what and the app makes checking my speeds and contacting support super easy. 10/10 internetting folks, get you some.
Best internet I’ve had so far. Hopefully they’re planning to expand in more areas I don’t plan to live in this terrible neighborhood. But I can say at$t we’re to pricey. Rather you can afford it or not. Just highly ridiculous for one one. I recommend this service to anyone.
This app has fewer features than when I started. The latest version has a simpler layout, but you can no longer see what devices are on your network. I think someone may have stolen my password, but there is no way to tell before I reset everything. To be clear, this feature was available a few months ago. Also, they gave me a different router from the one pictured and told me it was “new” maybe this is why almost none of the features pictured are in the app. The app barely does anything to begin with, how do you lose features??? Update. The developer suggested that I could have the advertised features by logging into my router via web browser. As this suggestion does not involve the app or any features advertised within the app, I am lowering my review. It’s been an additional four months and no improvements.
Hello, I use the app frequently from my iPad but I wish it had landscape mode. I haven’t found any setting but the app doesn’t switch from portrait to landscape when I rotate my iPad. Thank you for your consideration.
I’ve been a customer since 2019 and love the quality and efficiency of service Starry provides. It’s also nice to be charged a flat monthly rate without a bunch of hidden fees. I highly recommend to anyone looking for an ISP.
I have added Starry to our building and most of our residents joined Starry instead of Spectrum and they are so happy with Starry!! Speed is great and no interruptions to services at all. Also, it’s way cheaper than spectrum ❤️I recommend Starry 100%
Starry has been flawless so far. No connection issues. I’m getting faster internet for even cheaper than my prior provider. Starry should be putting other companies out of business.
Removed any information about your router, just a stock photo staring at you in the app the whole time. No speed test anymore. Can’t configure anything in the router. Does not even hint at the fact that your online and connected, who decided to remove all the actual functions of the app? It’s practically worthless at this other than for billing.
This app in combination with the website, the only use that has is payments. I can not even change the name and password for my router, the communication is all over the place through the app and email... bad coordination. All I have experienced with this service is a headache. As the old saying says “the cheap always becomes more expensive “
So many disconnections . Poor service. Slow slow service. We are in the 21th century not in the beginning of the internet service…… Yes its cheaper than other companies but not worth it. It is about a week we don’t have a service and the customer service answers are ridiculous.
If you value data privacy, you should stay away from this app. They do not have an option to delete account even though you’ve canceled your service. And their support made it impossible to delete your personal data: phone number, credit card info, address, bills etc. I canceled my service 3 months ago. Been dealing with their support to delete my information from their system. It’s still not resolved. Why do they make it so difficult to delete my personal data. It’s so fishy.
For 4 years I raved to everyone how consistent and transparent the company had been. Service all the time. Intuitive network and app. But this past 2 months. The network has gone downhill. Outages for 4+ hours a day, randomly. Can’t get ahold of customer service. And when you do get ahold 2 days later they are condescending and really don’t care. The experience is now worst than Comcast’s. I genuinely cannot recommend starry as they are no longer a reputable network provider.
Most of the FAQ’s refer to being able to do things from the app but the functionality is not available. Can’t change my Wi-Fi name and password. My name was misspelled I. My account and I can’t change it. Is there some other app that the FAQ’s are referencing because this app can’t do anything.
Starry’s app is extremely barebones and offers three options for customer service but the company’s customer service is so bad that none of the options are sufficient. Internet Service frequently drops (once a week). The app regularly claims fast ISP despite regular service interruptions.
I am a college student trying to work on a project. The wifi has been out for hours. I came back an hour later and the wifi was back in. 20 minutes later, it was out again.
This app is nothing but a list of FAQs that have no use whatsoever since there’s no functionality in the app at all. It doesn’t even show me that I’m connected even though I certainly am.
Internet service is not working. I always have an issue with STARRY internet service. It’s not easy getting a representative on the phone. It’s always a high call volume.
I really wanted to like Starry Internet. $50/mon for 200gig speed is a great deal. Unfortunately, I constantly loose internet whenever there is the slightest bit of rain. This was never an issue when I had Fios.
