App isn’t perfect, but support is.
I initially rated this app 1 star because the app gave me trouble when I was firing up the grill and using the Signals and Thermoworks app for the first time in a year. I couldn't paste my password. App’s fault. Then, when I did get my email put it, the app told me it was connected to a different account. My fault. I forgot I had used a private relay email with Apple. I got a nice response from the developer to my negative review on the app store, and so I called support. I immediately got a live person (Nuemmy?) on the phone who was extremely helpful and friendly. She was great. Exactly the kind of customer service one would hope for but rarely gets. ThermoWorks just got a customer for life after helping me out so quickly with my support call. Highly recommend their products and support. My only mild complaint is that the app is finicky when it comes to pasting into the password field. I’d also prefer to use AA batteries than have to remember to charge my Signals after use. Other than that, the product and app are great. Totally worth the money to have a top quality probe thermometer and great support if anything goes awry.

Extremely useful app now. Huge upgrade from the older app.
The app is now very easy to use and the Wi-Fi connection and Bluetooth connectivity is rocksolid with the Smoke Gateway. The graphs are great. The device is very accurate for both checking oven air temperature and meat temperature. I even begin to notice that one of my double wall ovens was off temperature. I replaced the oven temperature thermistor and then recalibrated the oven using the Thermoworks Smoke and Smoke Gateway with the air temperature probe. Being able to track the graphs at certain fixed temperatures for over an hour showed me accurate heating curves for the oven so that I could get it calibrated properly. All from the comfort of my recliner while watching TV. The oven now works like a dream and as expected. And the wife is very happy as her baked goods now turn out predictably. So kudos to Thermoworks for the improvements they’ve made in their app.

Quality
I have several Thermoworks products but lean heavily on the Smoke alarm with the wi-fi gateway. I can use bluetooth only with the remote or not use the remote at all, and with a push of a button on the gateway, monitor and set alarms and watch graphs, etc. on the Thermoworks app via the cell phone or ipad. Sometimes i use both. It accepts two probes if desired; many times i just use one for food temp only; usually for indoor oven cooks. I realize this is an app review so: their new app works great but i had no issues with the old one. It’s easier to set up and is far more sophisticated though. Thermoworks has great customer service if needed. Just look at their replies to reviews on their website; it’s not often that you see that level of interest by a company.

Useful tool
When switching to the Signals and its app, not only did my cooks get better as I had a better reading of my temperature, it helped me save a few cooks too! I have a traditional offset wood-burning smoker and sometimes, being elsewhere around or in the house, I don't realize that my fire is about to lose its momentum. Many times did the notifications on my phone helped tend my fire very quickly before I start getting too big of a temperature delta in my cookbox. The app is easy to use, the graphs are pretty cool to observe, especially since you can see your stall on a brisket. I'm just really satisfied with the app and my Signals.

Great app with great functionality. One problem.
This is a great app. The Signals is a great tool for BBQ. The functionality of the app is great and it works flawlessly except for one problem. The alarm notifications are completely silent on my iPhone 13 Pro and my Apple Watch. The banner shows up. But no vibration or sound. I’ve double and triple checked notification and sound settings and that I’m not in focus mode, silent mode or DND. The alarm notifications are only audible if the screen is unlocked and the app open on the phone screen. Not ideal if I’m setting an alarm for an overnight cook and such. I hope this bug can be corrected.

Want to Like this More
Setup and pairing of the brand new Smoke and Smoke Gateway had a few bumps and hurdles. Took me a few tries (doing the same things) before it finally worked. I’m fairly technically inclined and I found this kind of painful process. After I got it all paired, I plugged in probes and ran some tests to see if it was working. I’ve noticed that the Smoke Receiver gets pretty up to date data, but the cloud data lags behind several minutes. In this case the temps I was showing were like 10-15 minutes behind. No real issue as it was a test, but this is a red flag. I got this so my iPhone and Apple Watch could watch long cooks. While my iPhone worked, the Apple Watch just spins saying “waiting for data”. I get nothing. I’ve reinstalled, cleared cache, restarted, and more. I can’t get the Apple Watch app to work. Again, very unintuitive. Giving this 3 stars until the situation improves. I want to like this a lot more than I do right now. This needs serious work, and I’m considering sending back the Smoke Gateway altogether. What’s the point in watching something laggy that only works on half the devices I bought it for?

So much better than the other her brand
If you like smoking meat then you should have a Signals with the billows fan. This thing is amazing at holding a steady temperature and it makes burning wood, wood chunks or charcoal burn so much more efficiently. I use it with my Green Egg. I originally had the Egg Genius which is the Green Egg version of the ThermoWorks, it was terrible. The app for that thing had a horrible time connecting to Wi-Fi. My ThermoWorks has no issues. I did have to call customer service a few thing mostly related to user error but they have amazing customer support. I would definitely recommend to everyone.

I don’t get it. Sophomoric.
It’s always been difficult to sync smoke gateway to WiFi. The new software makes it impossible for me. Very frustrating. I really don’t understand why every piece of software ThermoWorks comes out with seams like an intern wrote. The hardware is great. If you are looking for a sturdy, reliable, and accurate thermometer, I recommend both smoke and chef alarm. I DO NOT recommend the smoke gateway. I’ve owned it for three or more years. It’s just frustrating to connect to WiFi. Especially if you loan it out and have to reconnect to your own WiFi. Or if there is a software update. Simply put, ThermoWorks needs to get their software up to par with their hardware. Update: I called and talked to Ben today at tech support. The reason I couldnt pair my gateway was because of an iPhone change. He had me turn off cellular data and then go through the setup procedure. No problem setting it up. Wish they had put that on the setup screen! As other reviewers have commented, this version is a vast improvement over the old app. Upgrading number of stats from 1 to 3 (not 5 because of connect problems that require a call).

What were they thinking?
I have used these devices in the past and they were really good. So I have a cook and need some extra contro. I get out my smoke and gateway. I update the app and since I now have a new home network I go through the reconnection process and it doesn’t work! After several attempts, I call ThermoWorks support and instantly get a human that speaks and understands English. I tell him my tale and he asks if my WiFi password has any special characters in it? In today’s world whose passwords don’t have special characters? He said to change my WiFi password to only alphanumeric. WRONG ANSWER. Why would I make my network less secure as well as having to change the dozens of devices that are connected just to satisfy a thermometer, albeit a nice one. I guess I now have a nice Bluetooth thermometer without WiFi capability.

Works great.
Bought the ThermaQ WIFI several years ago and worked great for cooking till they changed the cloud upload rate to once an hour. By the time you see the updates on the app it’s too late. I called support and they said “ sorry that’s the way it is now”. I spent hundreds of dollars on this and it was sold as a cooking thermometer that works with the app. Please change back to uploading every minute or two, so that it will work as sold. Update: The tech person I talked with last month had no clue. Person I talked with today, Zach, was very knowledgeable and got it fixed. Thanks.

Great Customer Service
So, I got my brand new ThermoWorks Signals in a few days ago. I finely got time to open it up and get it ready for my first cook with it. I push the power button go threw the steps works great and then I loose Bluetooth and WiFi. So I called customer service visit with a tech (Joseph Bowen). We was respectful and listened to my problems and we tried to work threw then but, we had no luck in resolving the Bluetooth and WiFi issues. So they are sending me brand new Signals. I will definitely recommend them to my friends in BBQ world. Great customer service.

Billows & Signals on Big Green Egg
Controlling the Big Green Egg temperature particularly when smoking at low temp has always been difficult. Getting the inlet damper and flue damper set is hit or miss and over a 10 to 14 hours smoke, you have to adjust frequently, you’re on the edge of too hot or the fire dying out. Using Signals and Billows completely eliminates that issue, temp is controlled with 3 degrees F. As Signals uses WiFi and Bluetooth I’m always in contact with the Egg even away from home. Using Signals and Billows let’s you concentrate on other issues rather than temp control in making great BBQ

Great but not perfect
Amazing app, works well for me most of the time. However a few bugs I noticed this last session. Started session, renamed probes, but graph names did not update. Entire session froze 3 hrs in. No temp response and billows almost put the pit out, luckily I caught it and rebooted my signals. This was a huge brisket so very long session. I noticed the temp graph cutting off the earlier hours without allowing me to scroll back to see the full timeline. Short of the session freezing (which I think was a signals issue and not the app) these are small issues and so only drop a star.

Such an improvement!
This app is far better than the old app. I was considering throwing away my Signals and purchasing a Smoke device because the old app was junk. The Signals is such a nice unit and it was a shame the old app made it nearly unusable. This app has corrected those issues. It pairs much more easily, looks way better, and a more user friendly interface. Makes the Signals what it should have been from the beginning. So happy with the new app!!

Bob’s signals.
I had used ThermoWorks produces for several years. I have both Smoke and Signals. They both work flawlessly. When there is no internet I choose the Smoke. When I am on the network I use the signals. These two units along with the thermopen allow me to BBQ and grill. The company stands behind the product. I did have an issue and it was replaced with a new signals. I smoke, grill and souvids and these are the best products I ever used. I even include the products in my BBQ blog.

Great app, notifications could be improved
It really is a good app, but I use this to remotely monitor my barbecue/smoking. I have changed all of the settings under notifications to include banner, persistent, always; however, you either don’t get a notification when you’re not in the app when the temperature threshold is exceeded or you just get a single tone which if you’re not sitting right next to the phone to hear it is a problem. Thermo works barbecue, while an inferior app did have this feature that would alarm until it was muted.

Don’t worry
I’m sitting here at a restaurant. My pulled pork has been smoking for 5 hours, and I don’t check on it, and I don’t worry. I just pulled up the app, and can see the temps just fine. Two weeks ago, I was out for a drive and got an alarm that the pit temp had dropped because I’d forgotten to put in new pellets when I started the brisket. No worry, headed home to take care of it. This app lets me use my smoker while I’m not home, and I don’t have to worry about a thing.

Good update could be improved
This is a much better app than the last. I had an issue of a lost connection over Bluetooth with my dot, but after a hard close and reopening of the app, iI would love to see in the future some Apple Watch functionality. I would love to see in the future some Apple Watch functionality. I have to have my phone close to the dot so I don’t disconnect which defeats the purpose of the remote monitoring. I think with a watch app element, this could fix this issue as a workaround.

Constant alarms
I hate this app and regret the money I’ve spent on their hardware. You can set a target temp but you can’t change the min or max values that will trigger an alarm. The result is that alarms constantly go off as the temp goes above or below 25 degrees from the target. Overnight cooks are a constant stream of alarms as the temp goes outside of the 50 degree window that you can’t change. Eventually I just unplug the Thermoworks Signals and just hope the cook works out. I repeat this annoying cycle every couple of months, thinking I must have done something wrong. Tonight I have realized that Thermoworks products just stink and I need to give up on them.

Nice app but push notifications don’t work when signed in with Apple ID
Notifications are allowed but it doesn’t alert when alarm thresholds are exceeded. Apart from that the app is lovely. Nice graphs stays in sync with my signals just fine. WiFi works great. Edit: changing from Apple ID login to using my email address fixed the notification problems. Don’t know if that’s on Apple or Thermoworks. Updating to five stars.

Freedom
This can be a little tricky to initially set up, once you have it though, it produces incredible amount of freedom, namely I could walk down to the neighborhood pub, which is a half mile away and keep an eye on my brisket etc. Everything‘s good -I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve ever purchased from thermal Works, (except for a triple timer, which failed rather quickly) but that’s another story

Love it
Very cool app! Works great, never had any issues with connection but I was close to the fire the whole time. Love the “sessions” which allows you to take notes and see a timeline of the cook from beginning to end. Very helpful if you nail it and want to remember what you did right or totally fail and figure out where it went wrong. Super impressed with the ThermoWorks signal and the app!! Nice work!!!!

Superb Products
These are the best products I have ever used. I have 2 Smokes, 1 Signals, the Thermapen, and the Billows. Love using my Billows with my PK 360. Perfect temp for hours with minimal charcoal. You can’t go wrong with these products. Customer service is phenomenal. Had one glitch with my first Smokes and they sent me another one immediately. Come to find out it was the temp probe. Replaced those and still using both Smokes.

Huge Upgrade over Previous App
ThermoWorks hardware has always been a prld-class, but the previous app was a hot mess. Well, it seems they have heard the feedback and written a whole new app which works like a dream compared to the old one. Connection is great, values are easier to enter, and the display makes more sense. I’ve just completed my first cook with the new app and so far it’s a game-changer.

Signals 4 probe - Off to a great start
Bought the Signals 4 probe to go with my Grilla Grill pellet smoker. We’ve done 2 brisket and 3 pork shoulders/butts smokes that have turned out delicious. The connection via the iPhone app is simple to use and give you great data during the cook. I also like that it creates sessions so you can see the cook history. I would recommend and would buy it again.

Getting worse
When I first bought my signal last Christmas with the fan it would take me up to temp fast and hold at the set temp. Low and slow. Fast and hot. It was rock solid. Recently it takes awhile to get to the set temp and then it holds the temp 25 degrees lower than I set it. This really extends the cook for low and slow. 200 is not 225 and it held it at 200 with pulsing fan for 8 hours overnight. It’s a shame because it was the best when I got it. Now I’m going to switch back to the FireBoard

Great if you have a connected device
This is a great app if you can connect your ThermoWorks thermometer to it. Some of the interface could be improved. Like how to recall previous cook graph and naming a cook. Also could use some improvement on the naming of options such as “save and archive”, what does that mean, does it mean I end thr cook I’m doing?? Seems like this was made by engineers.. which I understand, but other people may not.

Needs work
I purchased Signals a few weeks ago mainly to use with my Apple Watch. It did not work properly and after a few conversations with support (they acknowledged a problem) I had to return it. Another problem I had was when you changed your probe name on your phone, it often would not change on the Signals. You would have to power off and on the Signals to have it change. Hopefully they fix the Apple Watch issue because I would really like to try it again.

re: Finally Worthy
This app is what it should have been from the beginning. Been testing in Beta and the attention to detail and support are 2nd to none. I was told that fan speed Info for billows would be a future addition along with the ability to share your cook online with others. :) Hope those features come soon.

Reset w every iOS upgrade
Every time I upgrade my iOS or get a new phone, it won’t let me connect to my Signals. It forces you to email ThermoWorks so they can delete Signals from the previous account. You then have to go through setup again. And of course, you only realize this as you’re about to start a cook! Please fix this! Also layout in app is a bit clunky and non sensical. Hire an ergonomics engineer!

Has transformed my smoking. It’s like having an automatic journal of each cook. I also have the billows hooked up to it - I don’t have that down yet in terms of getting it to manage the temperature correctly but hopefully I will after a few more cooks. No wifi hookup issues at all. Connects flawlessly to my IPad Air 2 my S10 and my iPhone 7+ via wi fi.

Great products, half-baked app
I use the Signals, which is great, but apparently I need to switch to this app. Downloaded it and it requires a login but doesn’t recognize my ThermoWorks store login so this must be a different database. When entering a password it doesn’t allow you to paste (from my secure password app) so get ready for lots of typing or insecure passwords. It also doesn’t seem to scan for WiFi so you need to type in the SSID. Not sure how a proper development cycle and user testing wouldn’t catch these things.

I have been a user of other temperature control devices for the Big Green Egg for over 10years. I owned the digi-Q device and used it for years. Disappointed in notifications
Unless the app is open you only get the banner that pops up. To get effective audio notifications you must keep the app open and in the foreground. This needs fixed, makes it almost useless for overnight and long cooks. The sounds should come through just like a phone ring or text tone would do. You should also be able to customize the tones.

Signals with billows
Amazingly simple to use, and set up. Can go 12 hrs+ on a 22.5 wsm using the billows fan to control temperature. Never varies more than 10 degrees. Usually can stay within 5 degrees depending on type of charcoal. App charts perfectly, saves cooking graphs, you can take notes, and has the ability to set alarms. Nothing like getting a good nights sleep while smoking a whole packer brisket!

I sent in a complaint to ThermoWorks after purchasing my signals and bellows. The hardware is impressive and works great, but the app was complete trash. I wanted to return everything. Same issues w/ new app.
I don’t need to control fans or bellows, I just want my BlueDOT to tell me what temperature the meat is at while I’m in the house. But the ‘new and improved’ app that they claimed to be devoting massive resources to still drops Bluetooth connections and fails to reconnect constantly. Closing and restarting the app, turning the BlueDOT on and off, stopping and restarting the Bluetooth on my phone, and trying multiple sequences of all of those just results in frustration. Am I the unwilling beta tester for this lame update? I don’t know what high-school kid they hired to rewrite this app, but I hope he never gets a mission-critical software job.

Open with connection instructions
The Smoke app actually works well. The instruction sheet that is included with the internet connection device is very confusing and basically useless. The instructions that are available when opening the app are very easy to follow. I suggest those instructions should display upon opening the app. Currently the user must dig through the app setting to find them. (Three stars as a result of average execution- 5 stars for the equipment.)

ThermoWorks signals great product
Great tool to help BBQ especially several items at different temp targets. Very accurate much better than whatever the grill/smoker comes with standard. Only gripe is it used to scale the graph when deselecting the smoker readout to see cook details better, or vice versa to see detailed smoker changes. It’s apparently more stable than the unusable early days. But to use it I’m forced to associate with an apple or google account. Can’t find a way to login with the user if that I had used for the last year or two. But I do t even care about the history of my cooks, because the app was pathetically horrible at storing and presenting past data. I’m trying to respond to this email I got today (best in mind I never bought a Smoke gateway; I have a Signals): “ Final Notice. You are receiving this email because you have purchased a Smoke Gateway. Today is the final day to update your Smoke Gateway firmware. You will be unable to set up or use your Smoke Gateway until the firmware has been updated. “ So I guess my product will be bricked after today? Just buy a Meater and avoid this nonsense.
